The Abyss

image

Reaching across the barrier
into the darkness.
Blind to the forces
congregated in the abyss.

Faces emerge
through the obsidian air
but to what they are,
you are unaware.

Demons that lurk
in the depth of the night?
or figments
that have escaped your mind?

Your eyes closed-
and your hand extended.
Facing those fears
that remained suspended.

Suspended- in the back
of your wandering thoughts.
Just floating above
that line you’d never cross.

But here you stand-
on the edge of innocence and sin,
questioning where one ends
and the other begins.

  1. Wow this poem is amazing, but the best part for me was how much it reminded me of the novel i’m currently writing. The parallels are incredible. I’m a writer btw, I’ve got my new blog with quite a few short stories in it, and I’m working on a novel. I’d be eternally grateful if you took the time to maybe check me out. I’ve followed your blog. Thanks I really appreciate it 🙂

  2. Just referring to a comment that was made above – do you sometimes find that photos can inspire your work as well? Or do you usually just write from imagination?

I really like this poem by the way, I love the idea of the line where the demons being blurred, that’s a beautiful concept. I’ve dabbled in poetry a bit but have never had the courage to post any of it as it has rather dark subject matter, but maybe you have changed my mind 🙂

    1. You should definitely post it! My original purpose of this blog was actually to write short stories and essays, but for some reason I wrote a poem and just kept up with it. Honestly not sure why I even wrote it, but I’m glad I did. Haha
And I usually write from imagination then search for a photo to go with it. But I have been considering doing another installment of my interactive poetry, but with a photo instead of words. I’m just waiting until I have time. I was also nominated to do a 5 day photo challenge, I only had time to post one though. I’m probably going to link this to that challenge, but this photo just stood out to me and I wanted to write about it.

      1. If I find the courage to, I will credit you in the post, thank you 🙂 I’m glad you did too! haha it’s refreshing to see your creativity. Ah okay fair enough, I like the idea of linking photos of writing, essentially they’re just different ways of speaking to people aren’t they?

        1. Haha, well thank you!
I didn’t use to put photos with my poems, and I still don’t always do it. But I think they can provide the writing with more of an atmosphere. It’s like the photo tells some of the story and the words tell the rest.

          1. Kind of like a backdrop? That really makes sense! I really like it 🙂 if I do put up any poetry, I’ll make sure to do the same. I’ve actually just put up my first photo post – have a look if you’d like 🙂
