The Storm

image

All the time I feel the air.
Breezing by, everywhere.
Can it feel me? Does it notice me?
Does anyone, anywhere really care to see?
Everywhere I go, there’s no feeling of space.
Free from the toxins that impale this place.
Gone are the times of solitude and innocence.
Here is the now, the age of dissonance.
I walk among the reckless and the recluse.
Just those who are already stuck in the noose.
Kindly floating by, observing society.
Listening to the lack of sincere propriety.
Missing their voice, which got caught in the wind.
Nothing’s right, we’re trying too hard to blend.
Only to discover it’s us who are the plague- blurring among the faces, all too vague.
People who fall to greed and lust,
Quiver so slightly in the air like dust.
Rising through the storm are the few.
Sickness has settled on us all like dew.
Trying to win this fight-
Useless among both the bright and the blight.
Vehemently stretching with no success,
Will never supply us with happiness.
X’ing through our heart’s true desires
Yearning for something behind the fires.
Zoning ourselves far, far away- seems much safer when you have too much to say.

Possibilities

image

The blood pumping
through my veins
or the thoughts
that can’t escape my brain.
-What is it
that makes me believe
that the world around me
isn’t all that it seems?

I look beyond
what’s plain to see
and open my eyes
to what could be.

So many others
hold their eyes closed
and to what I know,
they’ll never be exposed.

Keeping their vision
planted too firmly in reality
restrains their growth
and erases their morality.

For all they see
is all the cruelty,
what’s real, set in concrete-
instead of all the possibilities.

The Fortress

Pebble by pebble;
Stone by stone,
this fortress was built up
by the hands of our own.
Now destined to fall
from the distress of cracks,
yet despite its weakening,
we continue to wrack.

We destroyed this once sovereign being
and have transformed it into an idea
we will never be reaching.
Not with our minds
wrapped in the wicked ways of this world.
Not until we learn
what a life is actually for.

Shots are fired
like the beat of a drum
with each thump,
another one comes along.
Raiding and ravaging
each other for their worth
ends only when one
becomes part of the earth.

Corruption and lies
lie deep within our lives
seeping into the core
of our values and guidelines.
We are no longer ashamed
and willingly take the blame
as long as the world
will one day know our name.

What are We?

image

Is it jealousy and envy’s rage
that set the stage
for relentless pain,
and tear stained eyes?
Or is it this world
morphing us all
into hateful humans
who are careless
to when others fall.
In fact-
we celebrate their demise
so that we can take pride
in our victory and prizes,
seemingly gifted to us
by the hands of hate,
but are always taken away by fate.
Life is changing.
We are changing.
Belonging to the world,
instead of owning our life.
What has unfurled
in front of our very eyes?
We’ve grown into a society
detached from one another.
We march on through-
into the war zone,
leaving others to fight alone.
We’re selfish,
unconcerned
with things beyond ourselves.
Why have we become so hardened
and divided from everyone else?

The Wrecked

image

Those who truly care
are locked out of sight.
The rest are emotionless, bare-
Only faking polite.

Their manners have diminished,
their compassion is frayed.
We are all unfinished,
our colors all fade.

But those who act
like what they are not-
their hearts are cracked,
their throats, tied in knots.

The rest who provide
humanity and respect
should feel pride
for not becoming wrecked.

Collapsing Faith

image

If only the world wouldn’t wait
to finally face its formidable fate.
As people begin to worship the sin,
we will end before our time.
As everyone is at a loss for their sane state of mind.

The collapsing faith
and the public’s malicious face
are corrupting the land-
as the waters are dissipating
and the ground is disintegrating,
people are growing out of hand.

Communication has ceased,
thoughts have vanished.
All that’s left are the hearts that have been tarnished.
Tarnished by the stain of negligent acts.
and covered in cracks
created by our twisted tactics.

We no longer breathe as we once did.
Air cannot fill these lungs.
We gasp for breath
and plead for blood to again course through our veins.
Though all we are
are our remains-
as our souls were trapped by death.

We can’t believe in the light-
As we’re buried in the darkness,
broken down by the weight of the earth
and sealed away from the rest of the world.

Giveaway Contest!

To some, this may not be a huge deal, but to me- it’s massive.

I have reached over 1,000 email followers on WordPress and am nearing 1,000 WordPress account followers. I never expected 1 person to read my work, nonetheless, this many. I really appreciate everyone who reads/follows/comments on my posts, it really does mean the world to me.

With that said, I have decided to hold my first contest and giveaway!

The only guideline for the contest is to write a poem about my favorite poetic subject- society or humanity. It doesn’t matter what you have to say about them, just as long as it’s something.

I am planning on choosing 3 winners, maybe more, maybe less depending on how much I like the submissions and how many people participate.

The winner will receive:

-A post on my blog dedicated to their submission poem.

-A signed copy of his/her favorite poem of mine.

-A signed copy of my favorite poem of mine.

-A collection of new poems that haven’t been published.

-A sneak peek at my first chapbook.

I have only one rule:

No profanity.

Bear in the Big City

image

Strayed away
from his usual scene,
he stumbled across
something he had never seen.

The most curious thing,
He thought, “what could it be?”
So he stepped inside,
to finally see.

“This world-
so different than where I’m from.
So strange, no animals in sight.
Maybe I shouldn’t have come…”

He wandered around
in sheer fascination
wondering if this was only
his imagination.

“Unusual creatures
keep coming to see me,
but I’m just lost
in what I think they call… a city?”

“It’s so unnatural.
There’s nothing but this hard ground.
No trees anywhere.
Just these tall things all around”

People were coming
to see what he wanted.
They laughed, pointed,
snapped pictures and taunted.

He was scared.
Alone in an unfamiliar place.
Lost-
Surrounded by staring faces.

“I just want to go home.
I need out of here.”
His confusion
quickly turned into fear.

So he kept walking,
searching for a way out
when he heard a man
begin to shout.

Before he could turn
to see what was going on,
He felt a deep pain.
“Something is wrong”

He fell to the ground
his heart beat slowing
as the people around him
kept growing and growing.

His eyes slowly closed,
and the crowd disappeared.
He’d never see his home again.
He had faced his worst fear.

***

A few days ago, a bear wandered into the city I live near. He was just roaming the streets- he hadn’t gotten near anyone, hadn’t done anything threatening. Animal control was on their way (30 minutes away) with tranquilizers so they could put him back in his natural habitat. But city police decided it would be better if they shot and killed the animal. I’m outraged.
Humans kill, for the sake of killing. It’s the most pathetic thing I’ve ever heard. They murdered an innocent animal to “save the city.” But the bear wasn’t doing a thing to harm the safety of the people. They could have barricaded the area he was in, and blocked people off for another half an hour. His life shouldn’t have been taken.
