About Me

My name is Allison, and I started this blog about a year ago with unsure intentions and no clue on what I planned to do with the blog itself and my writing.
A difficult time in my life urged me to search the internet for “how to make my own blog” and the first link I opened led me to WordPress. I thought I was going to write pieces on lifestyle, relationships, do some ranting and maybe a little complaining here and there to help me work through the troubles I was having. Though, after I had the blog for about 3 months, I, for some unknown reason, decided to write a (honestly, terrible) poem and ever since then, that’s mostly all I write.
I wrote under the pen name, Blair King, until this past October, until I finally decided that I wasn’t ashamed of what I’m doing. Even if what I put out there isn’t the best, or even my best, poetry is still new to me, I’m still learning and I should be proud of how far I’ve come with no knowledge or background with writing or blogging. Poetry helps me transform my thoughts, emotions, confusion, pain, etc. into an experience that I, and hopefully others, can learn from.
In a year of having this blog and maybe 8 months of actually writing and posting, my whim and random decision has transformed into this amazing community.
I sincerely cannot believe the support I have received. Thank you all for the the follows, the likes, the comments, and for simply reading what I have to say. You will never know how much it means to me!

EDIT: I have been away for now over a year, I have made some major life changes and will be making some major online changes as well. I do plan to-revamp this blog and make it a bit more… me. 🙂

  1. As a writer, one that has worked with a variety of clients and been on retainer a few different times….stick to teaching.
    Writing as a personal thing is wonderful, it’s rewarding, it’s the chance to express and be creative. The moment it becomes profession that flair of passion begins to dwindle. Doing it on the side strictly about topics that you can enjoy and be passionate about is one thing…pursuing writing as a career can be filled with ups and downs, a continual roller coaster.

  8. When we feel most lost, is often when we’re found–and I can’t think of anything better than writing (or some kind of art) to get thoughts and feelings out, let them breathe and gain clarity. It’s a gift for me, and a therapeutic tool.

  11. You’ve had lots of good advice here. I started out thinking I’d major in psychology, then shifted to languages, then ended up dropping out for a few years and following a completely different path. 10 years ago, I went back to school and am now a teacher – as someone before me said, there is always time to reinvent yourself. The most important thing I learned through it all, is that nothing you do is ever lost – it all helps to define who you are and what you have to offer.

  15. I wish I’d stayed in school to teach, to pass on my life experiences, to work with the sponges that kids are, to make a difference. Keep the faith, I have friends that teach and love it!

  21. Thanks for the like on my post. Follow your passion and trust your gut. Early in my career I didn’t – I followed the money and I’ve spent my life taking corrective action since! Your writing will follow whatever you do though and be gift for the future.
