Who is the culprit
of true deceit?
Is it the image portrayed
or the view of many?
Is it my mind
playing tricks on me,
or is the reflection
reflecting insincerity?
Are my eyes the liars
or is it the mirror?
Looking inside,
sometimes I see
something unfamiliar
staring back at me.
A ghost- a phantom
of what once was.
Not what I am now-
Not what I have become.
Wonderfully put. Great one !

I’ve never really appreciated poetry, but I’m starting to really love and appreciate it since being on WordPress. Maybe I just haven’t given it the time it’s deserved. Can anyone write poetry. If I give it a go, are there any rules, or is it like art, it’s subjective?

I was the same way. I honestly hadn’t paid a single bit of attention to it, except for Poe and Browning. Even then, I wasn’t that big of a fan. I don’t know why I ever started writing it, I just did one day and haven’t stopped.
Everyone’s perception of poetry is different. Some people only appreciate rhyming poetry, some can’t stand rhymes, some believe in short, choppy lines, some like longer ones, some appreciate repetition and alliteration, some hate it, etc. There are so many diverse poetic forms that I don’t think there’s really a wrong way of doing it. All of mine are written completely differently and I don’t usually follow any sort of pattern.
You should definitely just give it a try and see what comes of it! You may find something you really enjoy!

Thanks!! And I did too, I wanted a picture of someone looking in the mirror, but that one stuck out to me for some reason.
